Hol’up, it was just new year’s eve though 😐 worriz going on here or am I the only one October sneaked up on like that? Yikes.
Today also happens to be Nigeria independence day, 54 years of freedom from our (insert sarcasm here) British oppressors. This day use to bring undiluted pride to me but today has just been blah. It is everywhere I sign into on social media and I too thought to post about our father’s land, after all there’s absolutely no place like home, but I seem to fall short of enthusiasm for couple of reasons. First off let me start by apologizing for my extensive hiatus (without notice). I was not aware that would happen, especially not for this long… to be quiet honest, I (still) don’t understand what it takes to keep a blog and I have come to a conclusion; I am TERRIBLE at this. But I’m sure one or more of you can understand that life is just… well, life. I’ve been on a roller-coaster throughout the year, all I can say to that is WHAT A YEAR. Regardless, I apologize with a side of sprinkled hugs😉.
Just as I am writing this, it occurred to me that November is over (SAY WHAAAAHHH??).. (more…)
Since the last time, a lot has happened. I’m still in Nigeria, although all events did not turn out the way I had foreseen or planned it.
On January 1st, the president removed fuel subsidy that caused fuel price to rise from N65 to a staggering 100+% increase of N140. Needless to say the whole (ok minus the ppl balling extraordinary from the money they’re taking from the govt) country was POed. So on January 9th there was a nationwide strike, with the hope of getting the govt attention. Everything was shut down, it was a dead zone all throughout the country for a week.
The most dreadful long boring week of my life. No one was allowed to go outside, open shop, go to work, nothing! Where I was at the time was SO boringgggg, I nearly lost my mind. The weekend after, we were allowed to go outside (Saturday and Sunday).
I took that opportunity to drive down to our towns. It was the longest road trip ever! The roads were terrible, the policemen were as corrupt as expected, it was all a nightmare. (more…)
I’m reporting live from Lagos, I finally figured my way around this mobile blog it is actually exciting. So glad I could come on wordpress and blog, this is the coolest thing ever (I think, lol). I woke up at 3am Nigeria time and have since been up for unknown reason so I figured I’d blog!
My trip has been going great. I’ve been up/down, in/out from one event to the other. New Years was a blast, spent my last moments in church and the mass was incredible, it was so lively. Went to another morning service (1st sunday service of the year if you will) hours later, it was divine. Then swiftly made our way to Southern Sun for brunch, before taking naps to end up at a party in the evening…so it was good! The weather is beautiful! I could definitely get use to this. Spent the whole of yesterday at a wedding, it was spectacular! (more…)
